ABOUT THE PROJECT

An initiative to utilize the advances on information and communications technology (ICT), a project titled, “Improvement of the Rice Seed Information System (RSIS) for Scaling Up, Deployment, and Operationalization to Strategic Areas Nationwide” was brought forth. In order to realize efficiency and optimization in processes, the rice seed industry, like any other industry, needs accurate and timely information to serve as main basis in making sound decisions. This RSIS project is a continuum of an assessment of a completed rice seed information project of Region 3 as to its validity and essential aspects needing improvements to address the current and future technological advances. The common yet persisting problems in the rice seed system such as delayed data consolidation, analysis, and transmission on rice seed production and distribution are hoped to be addressed. Thru ICT and this RSIS, manual data gathering and processing posing higher risk of human errors, delay of information, or worse data loss may be reduced and/or eliminated.

This project is jointly implemented by the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) at the forefront, with funding support from the Department of Agriculture (DA) thru the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) since its inception in October 2018. It shall develop a platform for collecting, consolidating, and disaggregating near-real time rice seed production and distribution data at the municipal, provincial, and ultimately at the national level for sound decision-making of policymakers and key agencies in project planning and implementation.

MISSION

To pave a way towards automation and mobile-based collection of field data called "rice seed production, distribution, and monitoring information system" that can provide accurate, timely, and reliable information to DA agencies and policymakers for project/program planning and implementation.

VISION

Centralized and reliable Philippine rice seed industry information hub
