About Us
ABOUT THE PROJECT
To enhance efficiency and optimize processes, the rice seed industry—like any other industry—requires accurate and timely information as the foundation for sound decision-making. The Rice Seed Information System (RSIS) project is a continuation of a previously completed Region 3 seed information initiative, building on its findings and addressing areas for improvement in light of current and future technological advancements. Persistent challenges in the rice seed system, including delays in data consolidation, analysis, and transmission related to seed production, certification, and distribution, are targeted for resolution through this initiative.
By leveraging ICT through RSIS, the project aims to significantly reduce or eliminate manual data gathering and processing, which are prone to human error, information delays, and potential data loss.
This project is jointly implemented by the DA–Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) and the DA–Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), with funding support from the DA–National Rice Program (DA-NRP) through the DA–Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR). Since its inception in October 2018, RSIS has developed a digital platform that enables the collection, consolidation, and disaggregation of near real-time data on rice seed production and distribution at the municipal, provincial, and national levels—supporting data-driven decisions by policymakers and key implementing agencies.
Mission
To promote automation and digitalization of processes of the rice seed production and distribution, and provide access to information on rice seed supply by collecting, processing, generating, and sharing nea-real-time information to stakeholders.
Vision
A digitalized and ICT-based rice seed industry toward a rice seed-secure Philippines.ABOUT THE PROJECT
